Minister of Commercial Tax (Excise), Commerce and Industry Mr. Kawasi Lakhma unveiled the statue of Chendru Mandavi, popularly known as Tiger Boy, at the New Bus Stand Chowk of District Headquarters Narayanpur and Gram Panchayat in Garhbengal. During his stay in Narayanpur district, he inspected the park located in Garhbengal and said that good facilities have been developed for children to play here.
It is worth noting that Chendru Mandavi popularly known as ‘Tiger Boy’ was born in the Narayanpur district’s Garhbengal Village. He gained recognition as Tiger Boy becaue of his bond with the tiger (Tembu). The friendship between Chendru and Tembu served as the inspiration for the movie “The Jungle Saga”. This movie won Oscars in 1997 and Chendru gained recognition worldwide. Arne Saksharf, a Swedish filmmaker, directed this movie. Chendru spent a year living in Sweden; But during his final days, he came back to his village, where he passed away on September 18, 2013, at the age of 78.
Chairman of Chhattisgarh Handicrafts Development Board and MLA of Narayanpur assembly constituency Mr. Chandan Kashyap, President of the District Panchayat Mrs. Shyambati Netam, Collector Mr. Ajeet Vasant, Superintendent of Police, Mr. Pushkar Sharma, Chief Executive of District Panchayat Officer, Shri Devesh Kumar Dhruv along with other officers, employees and family members of Chendru were present on the occasion.
